hiking gear crash course: a basic guide if you are new to the outdoor world.

what to expect?? (this is a working title)

Nothing quite compares to being in the great outdoors.  The view of a sunrise as soon as you open your tent, the smell of a rainforest, the achomplished feeling after making to the top of a mountain.

there is so much to be grateul for and to look forward to as you are embark on you outdoor life jounrezy!

…however, to be ill equiped is to be ill prepared

so here are my top gear reccomendations and general tips if i was starting on my jounrey again.

gear recommendations for every explorer (keep this)

Equipping yourself with the right gear can enhance your outdoor experience significantly. Our recommendations cover a range of products, from sustainable clothing to essential tools that make adventures enjoyable and safe. Choose gear that reflects our values of sustainability and authenticity, ensuring that every purchase contributes positively to the environment. (this is really good but i did not write this)

SO… what do i invest in and what do i get scrappy with?

  • invest in good shoes early (and please wear them in first!!)

my two favourtive, that have been tried and tested

keen hiking shoes

merrell moab 3 shoes

  • protective clothing (this does not need to be anything fancy)

this does not need to be anything fancy. i used to just hike in my suk shoes and literaly a tee shirt or sports bra. eventually i started wearing a long sleeve shirt when i began to be more sunconcious.

the main considerations:

+ breathable fabrics

+ lots of pockets, you wont realise how helpful thez are until you are on trail

+ sun protective.

… some of my fav recoomendations

tops:

MONT vented hiking shirt

XTM short sleeve olive green hiking shirt

pants:

MONT zip off long hiking pants

PATAGONIA baby blue hiking shorts

i believe it is always a good idea to prepare for varible weather. even if it is a hot day on the trail, the night can always bring unexpacted changes, and when you are sleeping in a remote place, you do not want to be caught out with not enough warmth.

fleece jackets are a lightweight, very warm layer that i always have in my pack. at the moment i have been using the RAB womens fleece jacket, with a hood and i absoloubely love it.

i totally beleive it is worth the investment and you will be very thankful when you are up making you coffee in the early morning and the dew is still settling on your tent.!!

  • light weight stove

furno stove

traverse ultralight titanium liquid fuel stove

  • polarised sunnies

i personally think pit vipper sunglasses are the most fun sunnies to take on your adventures. they add a bit of flare to your hiking fit and keep you safe in style.

pit viper the monster bull originals

  • broad brimed hat

the sunday afternoon trail hat is definatey the number 1 hat i would reccommend.

of course any hat will suffice, but this hat just goes that extra mile. sunday afternoon is a small bussiness doing things diffrently,. eery inch of the hat is crafted to ensure a seamless time whilst in the elements. the sizing is fully adjustable, there is stratigc corwn ventiliation, with alterations to hold yours sunnies in place on your head.

the hat has UPF 50+ Certified Breathable Sun Rating and is water and stain resistant.

…basically whatever you put this hat through, it is ready to take it.

  • nalgene drinkbottle

nalgene 1.5L wide mouth drinkbottle

this is arguabley a bit of a luxury item. However, i have swore by yeti products for years. they are the most insulated products i have used, and i have tried out many other brands. it is such a beautful reards to get back to your car after a big overnight hiking, and get or buy a coffee and have it stay warm the whole drive home.

if you are really keen, you could bring it on trail as well, for those early, frosty mornings. but just having it in your thinking to use for some or during your whole outdoor trip is a MUST!!

OTHER items to note:

  1. toielttes i swear by while hiking:
  • grey water safe soap bar

2. first aid kit of course

3. gear repair stuff

  • duct tape!
  • gear aid tape

4. power bank!!

powerbank

Further tips!!

  • dont neglect water and food!! (you are what you eat, and how much)
  • alway tell people your plans (better safe than sorry)
  • start early!!
  • remeber leave not trace
  • you will be suprised how little you really need.
